Pledge of Allegiance litigation helped the historian Dr. Rex Curry expose religious bigotry & National Socialism in the USA.
Michael Newdow helped Dr. Rex Curry expose National Socialism in the USA & how the Nazi salute was made in the U.S.A.

During the political activism of Francis and Edward Bellamy, the government schools that existed were generally Protestant, a carry over from the American colonies and their Puritan background.   Immigration was changing the population.

The book "To the flag" by Richard J. Ellis states that Bellamy was concerned with the impact of new immigrants, particularly Catholics and Jews. Bellamy wanted the pledge to make the children of these new immigrants adopt his socialist dogma and spread it to their families and to all of America.  Bellamy's idea was that people could become socialists by pledging allegiance to the flag and to the government for which it stands.  It is a profoundly socialist idea.  And when Bellamy saw immigrants he saw markers of  race and ethnicity that he did not like and that he wanted to change.  As his other speeches and writings demonstrate, Bellamy was a race-obsessed nativist, preoccupied with his Anglo-Saxon roots and anxious, like many Bostonian WASPs, that the new immigrants would undermine his socialist experiment. In a Boston Globe interview (05/25/2005) Richard J. Ellis said "This fear of immigrants is the dark underbelly of the pledge, and I think the main reason it was written."

Roman Catholics grew in number with immigration. Catholic children, if sent to a government  school, would receive “Protestant” indoctrination.   Even the “Our Father” prayer was altered with the Protestant practice adding: "For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

Many Catholics defeated government schools by building their own schools. Catholic youngsters who did not attend Catholic schools were required to attend catechism classes each Saturday morning.

None of the above was consistent with Bellamyist dogma. He wanted one national pledge of allegiance and one national religion: military socialism.  The following is a quote from Francis Bellamy:  “The free school, therefore, was conceived as the cornerstone of the Republic. Washington and Jefferson recognized that the education of citizens is not the prerogative of church or of other private interest; that while religious training belongs to the church, and while technical and higher culture may be given by private institutions--the training of citizens in the common knowledge and the common duties of citizenship belongs irrevocably to the State.”

The Catholics had the correct suspicions, but as government’s schools grew and became more secular (read that: less Protestant), Catholics succumbed to socialist temptations of government schools.  Even so, it caused many non-Catholics who thought like Bellamy to become paranoid and frightened that Catholics would then “take over” government schools and do to non-Catholics what the non-Catholics had done with government schools.  Socialism is a vicious circle of paranoia and government violence.

“Under God” is not the lead issue for the Pledge in government schools.  The lead issue that the people send their children to government schools in the first place.  Let’s restore the pledge and the schools to their pre-1892 conditions.

The Pledge of Allegiance also led to religious bigotry against Jehovah's Witnesses

It eventually led to religiou bigotry against Jewish people under the National Socialist German Workers' Party. is the only website that provides the scary original speech given by Francis Bellamy for the debut of his Pledge of Allegiance. is the only website that collects and displays true historic photographs of the original Pledge of Allegiance (with the straight-arm salute).  that site is provided as an educational service to the public even though is not even a mainstream news media site.
