Francis Bellamy, Edward Bellamy and other American socialists spread the infamous straight-arm salute of the early Pledge of Allegiance and the daily robotic chanting to the flag that was dictated by law in government schools (socialist schools). It was bad behavior that was later adopted by the National Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP).
