Randall Bytwerk helped Dr. Rex Curry expose National Socialism in the USA & how the Nazi salute was made in the U.S.A.


Randall Bytwerk is a Professor of Communication Arts and  Sciences at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan (USA). He is involved with the German Propaganda Archive. Since 1970, he has been interested in propaganda of the National Socialist German Workers' Party. He has published a variety of books and articles on German National Socialism.  It is thus remarkable that Bytwerk and the German Propaganda Archive do not seem to show any awareness of the origin of the salute of German National Socialists nor of the alphabetic symbolism the group imparted to the Hakenkreuz (swastika), as shown by the noted historian Dr. Rex Curry (author of "Pledge of Allegiance Secrets" and "Swastika Secrets").  The historical items shown in Bytwerk's work include evidence supporting the work of Dr. Curry. http://rexcurry.net/debate-randall-bytwerk.html

1. Dr. Rex Curry showed that the USA's early Pledge of Allegiance (to the flag) used a straight-arm salute and it was the origin of the salute of the monstrous National Socialist German Workers' Party (Nazis). Dr. Curry helped to establish that it was not an ancient Roman salute, and that the "ancient Roman salute" is a myth. http://rexcurry.net/pledgesalute.html  The myth is still repeated in modern efforts to cover-up Dr. Curry's discoveries about the Pledge's poisonous pedigree.

2. The original Pledge began with a military salute that then stretched out toward the flag. Historic photographs are at http://rexcurry.net/pledge2.html and at http://rexcurry.net/pledge_military.html   In actual use, the second part of the gesture was performed with a straight arm and palm down by children extending the military salute while perfunctorily performing the forced ritual chanting.  Professor Curry showed that, due to the way that both gestures were used sequentially in the pledge, the military salute led to the Nazi salute. 3. Francis Bellamy (author of the "Pledge of Allegiance") and Edward Bellamy (author of the novel "Looking Backward") and Charles Bellamy (author of "A Moment of Madness") and Frederick Bellamy (who introduced Edward to socialistic "Fourierism") were socialists.  Edward, Charles and Frederick were brothers, and Francis was their cousin. Francis and Edward were both self-proclaimed National Socialists and they supported the "Nationalism" movement in the USA, the "Nationalist" magazine, and the "Nationalist Educational Association." They wanted all of society to ape the military and they touted "military socialism" and the "industrial army."  Edward inspired the "Nationalist Party" (in the USA) and their dogma influenced socialists worldwide (including Germany) via “Nationalist Clubs.”   http://rexcurry.net/bellamy-edward-german-connections.html  The Pledge was the origin of the Nazi salute. "Nazi" means "National Socialist German Workers' Party."

4. A mnemonic device is the swastika. Although the swastika was an ancient symbol, Professor Curry discovered that it was also used sometimes by German National Socialists to represent "S" letters for their "socialism."  Curry changed the way that people view the symbol of the horrid National Socialist German Workers' Party. Hitler altered his own signature to use the same stylized "S" letter for "socialist" and similar alphabetic symbolism still shows on Volkswagens. http://rexcurry.net/book1a1contents-swastika.html

Dr. Curry showed that many modern myths about swastikas use the false belief that Nazis called their symbol a "swastika."  German National Socialists did not call their symbol a "swastika."

Professor Curry showed that many modern myths use a false belief that Nazis called themselves "Nazis."  The myths cause widespread ignorance of the eytmology of the word "Nazi." Party members called themselves "National Socialists," not "Nazis."

As one example, a popular myth is that Joseph Goebbels wrote the pamphlet "Those Damned Nazis." That myth is repeated on Bytwerk's website at

The actual name of Goebbels' pamphlet was "Die verfluchten Hakenkreuzler. Etwas zum Nachdenken." Anyone can see that it does not translate as "Those Damned Nazis." It translates as "The cursed Hakenkreuzler. Something to think about." The word "Hakenkreuz" translates as "hooked cross" so that the phrase is closer to "The cursed hooked-cross fan. The pamphlet was widely distributed by German National Socialists from before 1933. It summarizes the propaganda of National Socialists in Germany just before Hitler's takeover in 1933. The booklet included five cartoons by Mjölnir, Goebbels' cartoonist. Mjölnir also produced some of the most familiar Nazi posters. No where in "Die verfluchten Hakenkreuzler. Etwas zum Nachdenken" does the word "Nazi" appear in any form.  So, in that sense the deceitful translation "Those Damned Nazis" is something to think about, and it is something bad to think about regarding rampant modern intellectual dishonesty.

As another example of Randy Bytwerk's oversights, his archive shows the photograph below and describes the opening of the Volkswagen factory (originally named KdF) and states that of the original KdF name, Hitler said: "It bears the name of the organization that has done the most to fill the broad masses with pleasure and therefore strength. It will be called the 'KdF-Wagen.' "

Bytwerk fails to mention that the original VW logo was not "VW" but the swastika / Hakenkreuz and that the swastika was within the original cogged-wheel (gear) symbol that later had the "VW" letters placed within it.  The "VW" letters replaced the original meshed "S" letters in the later VW symbol. Hitler used the Volkswagen for his socialist propaganda.  It is another demonstration of the use of the swastika as alphabetical symbolism for socialism. Even today, every day, everyone can see a similar example of the swastika-style alphabetical symbolism in VW car emblems.

Bytwerk also recently published a book comparing East German propaganda with that of German National Socialists (published by Michigan State University Press in August 2004). Its title is Bending Spines: The Propagandas of Nazi Germany and the German Democratic Republic. Some of the material on the German Propaganda Archive is translated from archival material, most often from the German Federal Archives (Bundesarchiv) in Berlin, which holds many records of the East German periods and of the National Socialist German Workers Party.
